Global Advocacy

Global advocacy means advocacy aimed at changing the policies and practices of international organisations such as the World Bank or the World Health Organization (WHO). Where appropriate, this will be in partnership with international alliances. In particular, we work in coordination with Vision 2020 and International Council for Education of People with Visual Impairments (ICEVI) advocacy goals and activities.

In addition, Sightsavers has regular opportunities to influence the development policies and decision-making processes of key international committees and working groups that affect Sightsavers' goals through membership of these bodies.

As advocacy takes a more important role in achieving Sightsavers' objectives, it is increasingly necessary for activities at international level to inform and be informed by regional and country level advocacy strategies and activities.

Sightsavers is actively involved with a number of international organisations, networks and institutions in the fields of prevention of blindness, social inclusion and education. These relationships include, amongst others, the following:

Networks and Alliances

World Health Organization

Global Call to Action on Poverty

Global Campaign for Education

UNICEF
