Screening pupils for sight related problems at Mamou Primary School in Guinea © Sightsavers
Guinea Conakry
Guinea's mineral wealth makes it potentially one of Africa's richest countries, but its people are some of the poorest in West Africa.
Sightsavers in Guinea
Sightsavers has worked in Guinea with local partners, such as the Ministry of Health, since 1993. These partners work to prevent blindness and deliver eye care to the neediest parts of the country.
Projects include mass distribution of the drug Mectizan® to prevent river blindness and the new eye care unit at Boke hospital funded by the Anglo American Group Foundation. This new unit will meet the eye care needs of 1,500,000 people in the areas of Boké, Gaoual, Koundara, Boffa and Fria.
