Rony and his father, delighted after Rony's successful operation. Tim McDonnell / Sightsavers
Ronys Story
Rony from Bangladesh was just four when his sight started to fail. His loving family quickly moved to Dhaka to find treatment. His father, Akhtar, got a job as a rickshaw driver, but no matter how hard he worked, he couldn’t earn enough to afford the treatment. Akhtar dreamed that Rony would become a doctor, but his dream was fading fast. Thankfully we discovered Rony and surgery was arranged. Just a day afterwards, he was a child transformed from the little boy lost. Bursting with impatient energy a few days later, Rony was already looking forward to school and Akhtar’s dream was given new life
