Tea at Aras an Uachtarain
December 2009
Sightsavers supporters have tea with the President Mary McAleese. President Mary McAleese, Patron of Sightsavers Ireland, welcomed 40 long term Sightsavers supporters to Áras an Uachtaráin for afternoon tea.
This event was a unique opportunity for the charity's long term supporters to meet the President, who has been Patron of Sightsavers Ireland since its founding in 2003. The supporters shared their experiences of the charity and its programmes at the official residence of the President of Ireland on Tuesday 20th October 2009.
Those supporters invited to attend reflect the massive contribution made by volunteers all around the country to Sightsavers Ireland. Supporters included Mr Christy Butler who has fundraised consistently for the charity since 2004 organising, amongst other events, the famous ‘Dublin Bus- Bus Pull' and outdoor swims with friends and family for the charity every Christmas Day. Also in attendance was Reverend Ann Taylor who organised a national children's Sunday School education programme and fundraising initiative for Sightsavers Ireland.
It was a very special day for us at Sightsavers and an opportunity to say thank you to our supporters, many of whom have been with us from the beginning. Their work is invaluable and helps people across the world by dramatically improving their lives.
