Pakistan
Sandwiched between India and Afghanistan, Pakistan is one of the most densely populated countries in the world.
Sightsavers in Pakistan
Over the last 12 years, Pakistan has faced many highs and lows as the nation has courageously ebbed its way through the tumult of political change, natural disasters, conflict, economic backlash, and more recently the devastating floods that have swept through most of the country. Through each of these times, Sightsavers has stood steadfast alongside its partners in the belief that the true test of partnership is found in difficult and challenging times. Please watch our video about our work in Pakistan, it also shows how we helped to change a village, and how that village helped to change us.
Sightsavers has been working here since 1985 with the objective of developing eye care for the poorest people in both urban and rural areas, providing preventive services as well as a full range of treatments. We have strong partnerships with local non-governmental organisations, as well as with the Pakistan Government.
In 2005, together with our partners, we worked with the government to produce the first National Plan for the Prevention and Control of Blindness.
