Our Work

For someone who is blind, the gift of sight is the greatest gift of all. We believe that sight is a basic human right, and that everyone - including those in the worlds poorest countries - should have access to the treatment and eye care that they need. Our work is important because, as well as providing treatment that can help to restore sight, we also work hard to support those who are blind or visually impaired to look to the future and lead independent lives within their communities.

Working with our partners in 2010, we helped to:

• Treat over 23 million people for river blindness
• Perform over 270,000 cataract operations
• Treat over a million people with antibiotics for trachoma
