Cameroon
Cameroon extends from an area of tropical rainforest along the West African coast, through savannah to semi-desert in the north.
There is currently no official data about the levels of blindness in Cameroon, but it is estimated that about 1% of the population are blind, with the principal causes being cataract, river blindness, corneal scarring and refractive error.
Sightsavers in Cameroon
Since 1996, Sightsavers has been working to prevent the devastating effects of river blindness. The programme has grown from one health district project to three projects covering 17 health districts.
