Working with our partners in 2009, we helped to:

  • Screen 13,358,000 people
  • Treat over 9.8 million people for potentially blinding conditions
  • Protect 21,796,685 people against river blindness
  • Carry out 273,061 sight-restoring cataract operations
  • Treat 990,798 people for trachoma
  • Train 150,000 eye care workers
  • Provide training and support to 7,274 people who are irreversibly blind
  • Provided specialist support to 5,919 children in mainstream schools
