Hints & tips

In order to raise as much money as possible from your event, there are a few general things that are worth bearing in mind.

  • Create yourself a fundraising plan to show how long you have to raise the target that you want to achieve, and set smaller more reachable targets to meet along the way.
  • Ask people who you think will be generous for their support first, as people often match the amount others have already pledged.
  • Keep your paper sponsorship form handy, this means you can collect pledges from all your colleagues, friends and family at any and every opportunity.
  • Let your supporters know what their donation will buy for Sightsavers. It is more compelling to tell someone €20 will protect a whole community from River Blindness, or €20 will buy a life changing cataract operation to restore someone's sight, than to ask people to support a generic cause. You can find good examples on our Gift of Sight website.
  • Don't worry if you don't think you can ask lots of people for support, a few generous sponsors can make a big difference to your fundraising total, for example 10 people sponsoring you €10 each means you raise €100 just like that!
