Types of Gifts

There are three different kinds of gift that you can leave that can briefly be described as follows:

Specific Gift. This is the gift of something specific like a piece of jewelry or an item of furniture.

Pecuniary Gift. This is a specific amount of money.

Residual Gift. This is what is left after everyone else has been taken care of in the will. So, for example, you could provide for your family, friends and pay your debts and specify that the value of the remainder of your estate be left to Sightsavers.
