Vincent Boland Breakfast Briefing

Sightsavers and the Financial Times breakfast briefing

The Financial Times passionately support our vision of a world where no one is blind from avoidable causes and where visually impaired people participate equally in society. On the 25th of April 2012, Sightsavers was delighted to invite the renowned Financial Times Lex columnist, Vincent Boland, to a very special and topical breakfast briefing where he discussed ‘Ireland and Europe - We're all in this together’.

Vincent joined the Financial Times – LEX column in 2010 having
been a foreign correspondent for the FT in Prague, Ankara and Milan. He closely follows the European, and especially the Irish financial crisis, or political crisis in some cases alongside his FT peers. Therefore, he posed some interesting facts he felt we need to understand and accept before we can truly come out of these recessionary times. In his briefing Vincent addressed some key questions and covered the following; How serious is Ireland's situation? Did membership of the Euro cause our problems? Is our relationship with Europe key to our future? What if we have to abandon the Euro now? The dilemma of managing our strategic relationships with both the UK and Euroland?

Vincent’s address can be listened to by right clicking on the Audio link in the related info box to the right. The introduction video to our work can be viewed on this link.

Sightsavers was delighted to welcome Vincent to speak at our event and we kindly thank him for his thought-provoking insights.
