Mary smiles after her eye operation.

Sightsavers is delighted to offer you the opportunity to have your will written for free by a local solicitor through the Irish Free Wills Network.

This service enables you to work with a local solicitor who will help you with the process of writing or amending your will at no cost to you.

While there’s no obligation, we sincerely hope that those who use the Free Wills Network will take the opportunity to settle their affairs and also leave a gift to Sightsavers, to help make a lasting difference to those at risk of sight loss.

How to use the free will writing service with Sightsavers

  • Register your interest: please call Declan at Sightsavers on 01 6637666 or email [email protected] and we’ll get the process started for you.
  • Receive an information pack from the Irish National Free Wills Network with details of your nearest solicitor, along with useful information on writing your will. The network will not share your details with anyone else.
  • Make an appointment with your chosen solicitor, ensuring you mention Sightsavers and the Irish National Free Wills Network. Following your appointment, your will will be written according to your instructions and you will complete a confidential declaration form.
  • Your simple will, or mirror wills for couples, will be free. If your will proves more complex or if you require additional work, such as tax advice, setting up trusts or drafting lasting powers of attorney, you will be asked to pay the difference in cost, but the simple element will remain free for you.

This service ensures you will benefit from the peace of mind that comes from knowing that, with an up-to-date will, your loved ones are provided for and that your financial matters are all in hand.

How we’re helping to change children’s lives

Muslima sits alone in the dark.

Sensitive eyes

Eight-year-old Muslima had cataracts, which made her eyes sensitive to bright light. She was often forced to stay inside, away from her friends.

Muslima has her bandages removed.

Cataract surgery

Luckily, her teacher had been trained by Sightsavers to recognise children with eye problems, and encouraged her parents to take her for surgery.

Restored sight

After Muslima's operation, her father picked her up and pointed up at some coconuts high in the trees. To his delight, she said she could see them.
