An exhibition of paintings by world-renowned artist John Kingerlee, hosted at The Chimera Gallery in Mullingar, Co Westmeath, has raised €3,240 to fund Sightsavers’ life-changing work.

Kingerlee, whose paintings have been collected by everyone from Bill Clinton to Seamus Heaney, teamed up with Chimera Gallery owner David O’Shea to exhibit and sell a range of oil paintings created exclusively for this exhibition.

With David offering the gallery space free of charge, all proceeds from the sale of the paintings went to Sightsavers.

The money raised could be used to screen 11 communities for a range of eye conditions, to fund operations for 64 children at risk of going permanently blind from eye disease trachoma, or to provide medication for more than 19,000 people to protect them from this painful disease.

Five paintings in frames from the exhibition.
The oil paintings were created exclusively for the exhibition.
