Sightsavers in Sierra Leone wins awards for disability inclusion

March 2026

The Sightsavers office in Sierra Leone has received two prestigious awards that recognise its leadership and longstanding commitment to advancing disability rights across the country.

Sightsavers in Sierra Leone was presented with the Sierra Leone Association of Non-Governmental Organisations (SLANGO) Award for Excellence, alongside an Excellence Award from the Sierra Leonean government’s Ministry of Planning and Economic Development for its outstanding contribution to the development sector.  The awards celebrate years of dedicated collaboration, community empowerment and impact in promoting equitable development.

Sightsavers’ Sierra Leone country director Tiangay Gondoe said: “We are deeply honoured to receive this award from SLANGO. It is a powerful recognition of the collective efforts of our staff, partners and disability-led organisations across Sierra Leone. Our commitment to disability inclusion is not just a programme priority; it is a core value and guiding principle in everything we do.

“This award strengthens our resolve to continue working alongside government entities, programme partners, organisations of people with disabilities and communities to ensure that every person, regardless of their background or disability status, can participate fully and thrive.”

The country office team described the recognition as a testament to the dedication and expertise of staff across all departments, as well as the crucial role of Sightsavers’ partners, in achieving meaningful and lasting change.
