Sightsavers Ireland to launch photo exhibition for World Sight Day

Sightsavers Ireland is hosting a photography exhibition to highlight avoidable blindness and celebrate the life-changing impact of access to eye care around the world.

The exhibition, called ‘Through Their Eyes’, opens on 6 October at Rotunda Hospital in Dublin. The event is part of Sightsavers Ireland’s activities to mark World Sight Day, a global day of awareness held on 8 October to draw attention to the importance of eye health.

Using photography and immersive imagery, the exhibition shines a light on the reality faced by millions of people living with avoidable and preventable blindness. Visitors can learn about the human stories behind the images and how they can help create a world where everyone can get the eye care they need.

The official launch event will feature a panel discussion with leading voices in eye health and neglected tropical diseases, including Sumrana Yasmin, Simon Bush OBE and internationally renowned photographer Jason Mulikita. The panel will explore the challenges and opportunities in tackling avoidable blindness globally, and the vital role of storytelling in driving awareness and change.

Sightsavers Ireland’s CEO Ciara Smullen said: “‘Through Their Eyes’ is an opportunity to connect with the people behind the statistics and to better understand the transformative impact that access to eye health services can have. We hope the exhibition inspires visitors to reflect on both the challenges and the incredible progress being made towards a world where no one is needlessly blind.”

In 2025 alone, Sightsavers-supported programmes helped to provide more than 500,000 operations for cataracts and other eye conditions, restoring sight and improving quality of life for hundreds of thousands of people.
